Giulia Bernardelli (otherwise known as @bernulia on Instagram) is an artist on Instagram with over 70,000 followers.
I think that Giulia stands out from the rest of the Instagram community because she strays away from the “typical” Instagram photo (such as a picture of a hand reaching out or a picture of a phone taking a picture) and posts photographs of her own original works. She is an artist who uses many different mediums, including photography. Her artwork consists of painting with spilled liquids, or taking other edible things (such as fruit and vegetables) and turning them into pieces of artwork.
It can be viewed, in a way, as taking something negative and turning it into something positive and beautiful. It takes the phrase “no point in crying over spilled milk” to a whole new level. She shows her audience that there really is no point in being upset over something that has already happened, and instead, to use that time to think of a way to make it better or something that will solve the issue.
I think that she is very creative in that she challenges herself by using items and mediums that are far from the typical artist’s palette. She was able to think outside the box and find an art style that differentiates herself from those of other artists, thus, developing her own unique image. She has really made a name for herself as her work has already been noticed and shared by the developers of Instagram. The reason that I came across her artwork on Instagram was because her account was shared by Instagram’s Facebook page.
Recently, she has been participating in a project called “Grown by women” which is an initiative by Taylor’s Coffee to raise awareness about women working in the coffee industry. Women do not receive fair and equal treatment in the workplace, even in coffee production, but this website hones in on certain inspirational women who are fighting for their rights and fighting for an equal future.
I think that she is the perfect person to represent this kind of initiative since a lot of her artwork is made from painting with spilled coffee. Not to mention that she is also a woman so it also shows that there are talented and inspiring women in the art industry too. I think that it’s particularly great that Giulia is giving back to the community by participating in this type of project. She is taking her talent and popularity to raise awareness for a good cause instead of only creating artwork for her own benefit. This, in addition to her beautiful artwork, is the reason she stands out in the Instagram community.
