Wenqing Yan (who goes by yuumei on Deviantart) is a professional artist who specializes in digital art using a tablet. She has a very unique art style and is recognized for her crisp, clean artwork and vibrant colours. Many of her art pieces almost seem to look as if they were shining or glowing because of the contrasts in dark and light hues. In this way, her artwork really stands out and many people can recognize her drawing without even mentioning who the artist is.

I have been following her for many years now and have admittedly used many of her pictures to decorate my room. She has been one of the main sources of my inspiration in life growing up due to the positive messages portrayed in her paintings. Her artwork features usually at least one subject who looks to be in thought or performing an action.

The above photo features many of her popular works within it, and portrays both stories to her creation process. On the left side, there are the positives and the things that pushed her to be the artist she is today. On the right side are the negatives and conflicts that she had to face to get there. I really like this image in particular because her thoughts and personality really shine through it. It can be seen as a passage into her mind and thought process.

She has stated, herself, that the inspiration for her artwork has been “taking in my life experiences, my emotions, the happiness and the pain, and turn them into art. And through the process, I learn and understand just a little bit more about myself and the world around me.” Little by little, she reveals her life stories and past experiences with each piece of artwork that she creates. This is probably one of the main reasons why I find her work so inspirational. She has found a way to cope with the difficulties that she faces in life and use that pain in order to create beautiful works of art.

Her artwork often represents fictional places, dabbling in the realm of fantasy, and incites the viewer into a “dream-like” state.
